Lachlan Murdoch, Rupert Murdoch’s eldest son, has returned to his father’s side as non-executive co-chairman of 21st Century Fox and News Corp, nearly a decade after he turned his back on the family empire. 
The move will be seen as the clearest signal yet that Lachlan, 42 and already a director of both companies, has been anointed as his father’s successor ahead of his brother James, 41. The younger Murdoch was deeply damaged by the phone hacking scandal at News Corp’s British newspapers.
