Springer to acquire FMC in the UK

Springer Science+Business Media (Springer) has signed an agreement to fully acquire FMC (www.fmc.co.uk), the leading commercial dental publisher in the United Kingdom. FMC was founded in 1995 and concentrates exclusively on the fast-growing dental market, and has a leading market position in the UK and Ireland. In 2006, FMC had a turnover of almost GBP 6 million.

The company, based just north of London, employs 37 staff and currently publishes 12 professional magazine titles, including Dentistry. In addition to a substantial publishing operation, the company organized three major industry events and awards as well as 21 seminars in 2006. FMC also owns the dentistry.co.uk website and has a variety of other online initiatives. As well as magazines and events, FMC also provides other media-related products to dental professionals, including database and direct marketing services.

Derk Haank, CEO of Springer said, “The acquisition of FMC is an expansion of our operations in the United Kingdom, and their leading market position will also promote our existing activities in dental publishing in Switzerland and the Netherlands. FMC’s publishing program will further complement our strong professional healthcare portfolio.”
